Global Corporate Research Committee Project: Essay Contest to Promote Investment in Japan
I) Theme: "Prescription for Creating Flows of Funds to Japan"
Japan has the lowest direct investment by foreign businesses as a percentage of GDP of seven major developed countries, and there are growing calls to stop the decline of Japan's economic international presence. Encouraging investment from other countries in Japan is an essential element for the further internationalization and development of Japan's economy. The Japanese government has set a goal of doubling direct investment from foreign countries in Japan as a percentage of GDP by 2010, and various cooperative measures are being implemented by the public and private sectors to achieve this goal. This essay contest is intended to solicit proposals and ideas on measures for making Japanese markets more appealing to the rest of the world so as to encourage investment by foreign companies in Japan.
II) Essay Requirements
- No more than 30 pages, 400 characters per page (not including figures)
- Include an abstract of no more than 400 characters.
- Submissions are limited to previously unpublished material.
- Submissions will not be returned. The sponsor will retain the rights to use selected submissions.
- Qualification: Anyone can submit an entry regardless of nationality, sex, age, or occupation.
- Deadline: End of June 2008
- Announcement of results: Early September 2008
